PETRA proposes an inverted cultural mirror: Latin inscriptions—collected by the artist as a flâneur among Rome’s stones andruins—coexist with abbreviations from the digital lexicon, an immaterial, portable code. From this collision emerges a hybrid, deliberately cryptic language: half-legible to both classicists and digital natives, yet always traversed by gaps, irony, and disorientation.
The pieces appear as false ruins: 3D-printed stones that mimic marble—optical traps that seduce with solemnity and, up close, reveal their artifice. What seems like relic is a copy; what promises permanence is,in fact, an ephemeral, plastic material.
The project engages with tourist Rome, where the past becomes scenery and the visitor a consumer of images. Against the selfie andthe souvenir, the figure of the traveler—committed to the place—slips to the margins. PETRA thus challenges the viewer: What do we see when we look at the past? What do we preserve, and what do we trivialize? Between faux marble and a dead tongue, digital acceleration and contemporary amnesia, the series opens a poetic, uneasy terrain where the possibility of genuine connection measures itself against its simulacrum.
